If you’re trying to figure out how to get leads for your business, you don’t need lengthy funnels or a bunch of lead magnets. Really, if you leverage it correctly, all you need is your own book.

Now you might be thinking: “A book!? I’m not an author! I’m trying to run my business here, I don’t have time to write a book!”

But hear me out.

Before you shrug the idea off altogether, or run out and hire a business book ghostwriter, I want to explain how to get more leads with a book – and why writing a book may just be the single best method for how to get leads for your business.

I generated over 35k in course sales revenue in just the first 40 days after my book launch. And I consistently sell around 7-10 copies of my book per day and bring in over 250+ new emails on my email list each month through my book’s lead magnets.

And I can teach you to do the same thing. So let’s get to it!

How to get leads for your business with your book: 9 tips

If you want to learn how to get leads for your business, here are my top tips:

1. Gift a book to every new prospect

Okay, you might be thinking: “If I go to all the trouble to write a book, I’m not going to give it away for free!”

But when you gift a book to prospective clients, it helps to close the sale. You are being directly helpful by giving them all this free information. They will understand your point of view much better. And they will even see you as more of an authority in your field.

If your client has a copy of your book, they can talk about it with friends and family, and you may get more than one lead for your business from the deal!

You can even send prospective clients with an extra copy to share with a friend.

2. Book stages to share your expertise

One of the easiest ways to promote your book (and therefore how to get leads for your business) is to get out on stage. If you’re not sure how to become a public speaker, you can join a speaking society or reach out to local venues to see if they have availability for you.

If you can book some speaking engagements, you will have a sizable audience of potential leads. They will all be there to listen to your expertise, and you can talk about your book during your speech.

3. Run ads to your book as a lead magnet

If you want to learn how to get leads for your business with your book, you may need to put in a little money and effort upfront. Try using targeted ads on Google or social media that lead to a free copy of your book.

I guarantee that lots of people are going to want a free book on a topic that interests them. Then you’ll get them on your email list and the rest will be history.

4. Use your book as a business card

If you’re an entrepreneur, it’s more than likely that you have a business card. But what if you used your book as a business card instead?

Now, I’m not suggesting you walk around with 25 hardbacks weighing you down. If you have an eBook, you can simply add the link to your eBook on your business card. This way, you can easily spread knowledge (and access to) your book whenever you meet a potential client.

5. Use your book to get podcast interviews

You would not believe how many more people will respect your expertise once you are a published author. It doesn’t even matter whether you went the self-publishing vs traditional publishing route. If you are an author, people will want to hear what you have to say.

And you can leverage that!

Use your book as a way to get podcast interviews. Reach out to business podcasts (and maybe even include a copy of your book) and see who bites. If you can get yourself on a podcast, you will have people flocking to buy your book, and that’s a simple method for how to get leads for your business.

6. Refer to your book on sales calls

I already mentioned offering copies of your book to potential clients as a method for how to get leads for your business… But you aren’t always speaking to your leads face-to-face.

If you are on sales calls, make sure to BRING UP YOUR BOOK. When potential leads learn you are an author, you position yourself as an authority in the field. And guess what? This will greatly increase your closing percentage – just like that.

7. Give your eBook away as a free download

As I already said, I don’t expect to walk around giving away free hardback books. But if you have an eBook, you can skip all those pesky printing costs (and all that extra weight).

Once your book is in eBook format, it’s extremely simple to spread it around. One of my favorite methods for how to get leads for your business is to offer your eBook as a free download.

Put this download link on your business cards, in your online ads, and in your email signature – wherever you can find a spot for it.

While it may seem silly to give away your expertise for free, you aren’t putting every single piece of your knowledge in your book. And the people who like what you say in your book will want to pay for your services once they finish reading.

8. Use a free-plus-shipping funnel

Everyone loves to see the words “free plus shipping” at checkout. It’s a great way to garner interest (and trust) in you and your business.

If you aren’t sure how to set up a free-plus-shipping funnel, there are plenty of simple templates online to get you started. As part of the transaction, you will collect the potential customer’s email, and you can get straight to work on closing the sale.

9. Embed CTAs in your book

When I wrote The Book on High Ticket Sales, I embedded special CTAs (Call to Actions) throughout the book that took my readers to different sites. This led to more traffic across the board, and made it easy for me to see which CTAs were working best.

If I ever decide one of them isn’t working as well as I would like, I can relaunch a second edition of my book with improved CTAs as a trick for how to get more leads.
