Lisbeth Lavigne is a physician, surgeon, and author whose work delves into the complex interplay between trauma, identity, and healing. With a deep belief that our lives should be in constant evolution, Lisbeth explores how childhood wounds can echo into adulthood—shaping our choices, dampening our joy, and creating rituals that mask our pain. Through her writing, she challenges the idea that we are ever too broken to begin again.
Her debut book, Le Mort de Moi: Words of Brutal Honesty to Forge Resilience and Courage, is both a poetic reckoning and a raw meditation on survival. Lisbeth draws strength from those around her—patients, families, friends, and colleagues—and channels it into her deeply personal and evocative work.

What compelled you to write this book, and why was now the right time to share your story?
I’ve experienced multiple traumatic events throughout my life, and writing became a way to explore those experiences and how I responded to them. In many ways, this book is a part of my own healing journey. Through reflection and writing, I discovered a sense of meaning, integration, and growth.
Le Mort de Moi became more than just a personal expression—it became a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Despite the deep pain I’ve endured, I’ve been able to build a life that is both successful and fulfilling. I wrote this book to offer that same hope to others who may feel lost or believe that recovery is out of reach.
What key messages or takeaways do you hope readers gain from Le Mort de Moi?
- Letting go of the past is never simple—but it is possible.
- Standing still in pain serves no purpose; there is always a way to reclaim your passion for life.
- Even if the world doesn’t see you, you can choose to become relevant to yourself—and that self-worth is the foundation of true resilience.
I want readers to know that healing doesn’t require perfection. It requires persistence, courage, and the decision to rise despite the weight of the past.
Can you share what your writing process looked like for this book?
My writing journey began when I was young—I journaled as a way to vent, to release the pain and confusion I carried. At first, it was purely emotional, a means to survive. I often destroyed those early writings out of fear that anyone might see them.
But over the last 20 years, I chose to keep my journals, continuing to write with greater purpose and reflection. A pivotal moment came when I met a forensic psychologist who encouraged me to keep going. That encouragement helped me realize that writing wasn’t just an outlet—it was a path toward healing. The process became one of deep introspection, allowing me to understand myself more fully and to transform pain into purpose.
What was the most difficult part of the writing process for you?
The greatest challenge was making the decision to share my writings with the world. Even though I’ve done a great deal of healing and have found strength and confidence, there’s still fear tied to my past—and to the people who caused harm. That inner struggle doesn’t disappear completely; it lingers in quiet moments.
But I’ve learned to acknowledge that part of myself without letting it define me. Surrounding myself with supportive friends has made a world of difference. Their presence has helped me continue to build resilience and move forward, even when it feels difficult.
What part of the writing journey brought you the most joy?
While this journey has been both challenging and deeply rewarding, the most meaningful part for me has been the incredible people I’ve met along the way. Immersing myself in the writing process—even taking courses to grow and improve—was fulfilling, but the true highlight has been working with the team at selfpublishing.com.
Everyone I’ve encountered has been so kind, talented, and genuinely supportive. They made me feel seen, respected, and completely at ease throughout the process. I’m truly grateful for the experience and consider myself fortunate to have worked with such an amazing group of professionals.
What’s next for you and Le Mort de Moi?
I’m excited to connect with others who have gone through similar experiences. Sharing my journey and hearing from those who understand can be a deeply validating and powerful process. Building a supportive community is essential for healing and for reminding people that they’re not alone.
In addition, I’m already working on several more books, and I look forward to continuing my writing journey, exploring new stories and deeper layers of the human experience.
