Space is no longer just for astronauts. It’s time to industrialize, settle, and mine the final frontier.
That’s what Alastair Browne believes, and that’s what his new publication, Building the Space Infrastructure, will teach you to believe, too.
With an M.S. in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota, and years of experience in space policy and development, Alastair S. Browne has dedicated his career to analyzing how humanity can thrive beyond Earth. As the co-author of Cosmic Careers, he brings a practical, solutions-based approach to the challenges of space expansion.
Building the Space Infrastructure, self-published with the support of the selfpublishing.com Author Advantage Accelerator Elite Program, is the predecessor of Cosmic Careers, since both originated from the same manuscript. In this step-by-step roadmap for expanding human civilization beyond low Earth orbit, the future is waiting…
Book Title: Building the Space Infrastructure: Developing the Cis-Lunar Neighborhood
Genre: Space Exploration and Development

Can you tell us a little bit about the book itself? What does it mean to “build the space infrastructure”?
We are about to expand into space beyond low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. Industries and countries and now talking about industrializing space, settling the Moon, and mining near Earth asteroids. They are not only talking about it, but laying out plans to do it.
In order to accomplish this feat, and have ordinary people settle and work in space to achieve its benefits, we must be able to do this in a safe and orderly fashion. This means space transportation of people and cargo, space factories, and law enforcement, to make sure there are no conflicts.
All is possible, and this book shows you how. Building the Space Infrastructure shows you how, in a step-by-step manner, this system can be built, what is needed, what are the obstacles, and what benefits can be achieved. There are many!
Why space?
There is vast wealth up there on the Moon and asteroids, enough to satisfy the needs of a growing population. This means opportunities for all, and a way for the human race to expand into the cosmos, and solving many of the problems the people are facing today, such as overpopulation, energy, and pollution.
Advancing into space can deal with all of this, and more, and we can prosper in ways we have never imagined, so it’s up to us to take that first step. It will be worth it.
Space has a lot to offer, more than we can right now imagine. There are minerals, uses for zero gravity, power from the sun, resources on the Moon, and asteroids, everything. It is humanity’s destiny to go up there, and we will flourish and thrive doing it. This is our last frontier, but it is infinite.
There is hope for the future!
What inspired you to write Building the Space Infrastructure?
My lifelong interest is in space development. After receiving an M.S. degree in Space Studies at the University of North Dakota in 1989, I realized that my talents in writing lie in the non-fiction genre, so I continued to write about my interests.
In that same year, then President George H.W. Bush proposed the Space Exploration Initiative. A request for proposals about this program went out, and I decided to participate. I ended up writing a 100-page proposal about establishing a Moon Base and venturing to Mars.
Unfortunately, after completing my original proposal, the SEI program was cancelled. I held onto the manuscript and expanded it over the years as I attended space development conferences and sold copies of it. The more we progressed in space, the more I added on to my proposal. Eventually, it transformed into the book published today.
What are a few things someone will learn from the book?
- Space travel: how, why, and what’s needed to make it safe and sustainable.
- The dangers of space and how they can be mitigated or overcome.
- Clean energy alternatives powered by space resources.
- How to industrialize and settle space for the human race.
- The potential lies in wait on the Moon and Near Earth Asteroids.
What was the creative process like for this book?
It was a long one! As mentioned, I drafted the proposal back in 1989, so I’ve been building the content for many years. As I learned more through space development conferences and new developments in space technology, I continually added until Building the Space Infrastructure was born.
It was tough looking for the right publisher for the book. It is a niche market, but it is one I find extremely important. After a long time of researching, I found selfpublishing.com and decided to pursue publishing the book for myself with their help. It’s been amazing working with my mentor, editors, and publishing assistants to get the best version of my story out into the world (and beyond!).
Any final words to the readers?
Building the Space Infrastructure is a bold vision for the next era of human civilization. The future is waiting—are you ready to take the first step?
