Elite Author Aleric Heck, Video Authority

Hey Aleric! Thanks for joining us. I’d like to start by asking why you wrote Video Authority?

For years, I’ve been sharing bits and pieces of my video marketing strategies through YouTube videos, webinars, courses, and these very newsletters.

But I kept hearing the same request over and over again:

“Aleric, can you put all of this in one place?”

So that’s exactly what I did.

Video Authority is designed for coaches, consultants, course creators, and service-based business owners who want to leverage video to become the go-to authority in their space – without spending years figuring it out through trial and error.

The best part? Everything in this book has been battle-tested with real businesses, real results, and real revenue.

Why was now the right time for this message?

I decided to write this book when I realized the same patterns were showing up everywhere, no matter the company, the industry, or the level of experience. Talented people were working hard, but they were stuck. Not because they didn’t know what to do, but because they didn’t believe they could do it consistently.

And it hit even harder because I understood it personally. I know what it feels like to be capable and still second-guess yourself. To work hard and still feel inconsistent. To know what to do, but struggle to execute when the pressure is high. That’s when I knew I needed to put the work into a book. I wanted to create something people could return to again and again, something that helped them reset their mindset and rebuild their execution in a way that actually lasts.

Who absolutely must read your book?

Video Authority was a labor of love designed for coaches, consultants, course creators, and service-based business owners who want to leverage video to become the go-to authority in their space—without spending years figuring it out through trial and error.

This book is essential reading for coaches, consultants, and service-based business owners who already have proven expertise but aren’t yet getting consistent inbound clients or recognition for it.

If you’re tired of relying on referrals, unpredictable launches, or constant outbound effort—and you know your ideas deserve a bigger audience—this shows you how to turn your knowledge into authority that attracts opportunities automatically.

It’s for operators who want to build a durable advantage, where trust is established before the first conversation ever happens.

What are the top 3 things someone will learn from reading your book?

  1. How to Become the Authentic Authority — The mindset shifts and strategies to position yourself as THE expert in your niche
  2. The Science of Video That Converts — Why some videos generate millions while others fall flat (hint: it’s not about production quality)
  3. The Video Marketing Ecosystem — How to build a system that consistently attracts, nurtures, and converts your ideal clients

What was the hardest part about turning your expertise into a book?

  1. Distilling years of experience into something usable

One of the hardest parts was resisting the urge to include everything. After working with hundreds of clients and campaigns, there were countless tactics, examples, and edge cases that could have filled hundreds more pages. The real challenge was identifying what actually mattered most—the principles that consistently worked—and stripping away the rest so the book would give readers clarity instead of overwhelm.

  1. Making it honest instead of impressive

There’s a natural temptation when writing a book to polish the story and make everything sound smoother than it was. In reality, many of the insights in this book came from failed campaigns, wrong assumptions, and lessons learned the hard way. Choosing to include those moments—and explain what didn’t work, not just what did—was uncomfortable, but necessary to make the book genuinely useful rather than just inspirational.

What was your favorite part about this process?

  1. Finally putting language to things that had only existed intuitively

For years, a lot of what I was doing worked—but it lived more as instinct than explanation. Writing the book forced me to slow down and reverse-engineer why certain videos, funnels, and positioning decisions worked while others didn’t. There were moments where something I’d done dozens of times suddenly clicked at a deeper level because I had to explain it clearly enough for someone else to use. That process sharpened my own thinking as much as it created something for the reader.

  1. Realizing how much unnecessary complexity people had been carrying

One of the most satisfying parts was seeing how many things could be simplified. So many business owners feel like they’re behind or missing some secret, when in reality they’re just buried under noise and conflicting advice. Being able to strip things down to a few core principles—and knowing that clarity alone could save someone months or years of frustration—was easily the most rewarding part of the entire process.

What are your plans for the future with this book and/or your business?

The biggest plan is to use the book as a foundation—not an endpoint. The goal was never just to publish a book, but to establish a clear, permanent resource that business owners can return to as they grow. From here, the focus is on expanding the ideas inside it through more case studies, real-world applications, and helping more experts implement these principles in their own businesses. Over time, I’d like this to become a long-term body of work that evolves alongside the industry, while continuing to build a business centered around helping people turn their expertise into something scalable, respected, and durable.
