What inspired you to write about business startups?

I decided to leave my job to pursue my dream business and it has turned into one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Since then, I have coached other entrepreneurs doing the same thing.

As my business has grown, my appreciation for entrepreneurship has developed more and more. Over the past several years I have also had the opportunity to interview inspiring business owners on my podcast and learn additional strategies to create a business you love.

Writing a book seemed like the best way to take the lessons I have learned and share them with others so they can make their dream of starting a business happen, too!

With the success of your business, Goal Crazy, why write the book now?

I actually thought about writing a book for the past several years, but I kept hesitating. I had a lot of fears around the idea of getting started

But then, God seemed to put many authors in my life. During the span of a few months, I kept randomly meeting people who had written books. These people started to encourage me and guide me on how to do it. Eventually, I realized now was the perfect time.

A book was exactly what I needed for myself and business.

Who should read this book today?

Dream Driven is for anyone who wants to start a business, but is not 100% sure what type of business they want to start. If you’ve ever dreamed of entrepreneurship and feel frustrated at your 9–5 job getting in the way, this book will be your guide.

What are some rapid-fire lessons a new entrepreneur will learn from Dream Driven?

Dream Driven is a step-by-step guide that will help you discover your perfect business, validate it’s a winner, and launch it this year!

Some other things you will learn are:

  • How to apply the Three L’s Framework to find the perfect business idea that creates your ideal lifestyle
  • How to find rockstar mentors that’ll help you for free!
  • How to turn your idea into a profitable business model using the Product/Service Design Blueprint
  • How to test your business idea using four proven validation strategies
  • How to organize your launch using the One-Page Launch Plan
  • How to stabilize and grow your business for continued success after you launch

What was it like to condense everything you know from your business into a 264-page book?

Everything in my book, I’ve said dozens of times before between my podcast, coaching, courses, and all the information I’ve already taught. Determining how much to include was definitely a challenge. My first several drafts of this book were much longer than the completed version. I ended up removing over one third of the original book to save for a future book, because this one was getting too long and doing too much at once.

One of the trickiest parts outside of that was creating a framework to take all of my lessons and form them into a clear process on paper.

I did this by writing everything down on separate post-it notes and arranging them on a large dry-erase board until I found a good order. As I started writing, I had to change this framework many times before I found the perfect structure and order for each lesson.

One of the most helpful parts of the process was my beta-readers. In the middle of editing, I had 42 beta-readers read my book and provide feedback on every single chapter. This gave me a TON of helpful insights to improve the book, and also gave me encouragement to keep pushing through. Many people shared how they were already implementing the strategies from the book to make their business happen, and that gave me the courage to get this book finished.

I feel like I have learned more from writing my own book than I ever have from reading someone else’s. Writing a book forces you to make your concepts extra clear.

How is this book going to impact your business moving forward?

For the next couple of years, marketing this book will be a huge focus for me. Dream Driven is going to become my new “top of funnel” product to get people introduced to my brand and concepts.
